John Pilger: Normalising the Crime...

Normalising the Crime of the Century

John Pilger – John Pilger.com via ICH December 9, 2009

I tried to contact Mark Higson the other day only to learn he had died nine years ago. He was just 40, an honourable man. We met soon after he had resigned from the Foreign Office in 1991 and I asked him if the government knew that Hawk fighter-bombers sold to Indonesia were being used against civilians in East Timor.

“Everyone knows,” he said, “except parliament and the public.”

“And the media?”

“The media – the big names – have been invited to King Charles Street (the Foreign Office) and flattered and briefed with lies. They are no trouble.”

As Iraq desk officer at the Foreign Office, he had drafted letters for ministers reassuring MPs and the public that the British Government was not arming Saddam Hussein. “This was a downright lie”, he said. “I couldn’t bear it”.

Giving evidence before the arms-to-Iraq enquiry, Higson was the only British official commended by Lord Justice Scott for telling the truth. The price he paid was the loss of his health and marriage and constant surveillance by spooks. He ended up living on benefits in a Birmingham bedsitter where he suffered a seizure, struck his head and died alone. Whistleblowers are often heroes; he was one.

He came to mind when I saw a picture in the paper of another Foreign Office official, Sir Jeremy Greenstock, who was Tony Blair’s ambassador to the United Nations in the build-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. More than anyone, it was Sir Jeremy who tried every trick to find a UN cover for the bloodbath to come. Indeed, this was his boast to the Chilcot enquiry on 27 November, where he described the invasion as “legal but of questionable legitimacy”. How clever. In the picture he wore a smirk.
Under international law, “questionable legitimacy” does not exist. An attack on a sovereign state is a crime. This was made clear by Britain’s chief law officer, Attorney General Peter Goldsmith, before his arm was twisted, and by the Foreign Office’s own legal advisers and subsequently by the secretary-general of the United Nations. The invasion is the crime of the 21st century. During 17 years of assault on a defenceless civilian population, veiled with weasel monikers like “sanctions” and “no fly zones” and “building democracy”, more people have died in Iraq than during the peak years of the slave trade. Set that against Sir Jeremy’s skin-saving revisionism about American “noises” that were “decidedly unhelpful to what I was trying to do [at the UN] in New York”. Moreover, “I myself warned the Foreign Office … that I might have to consider my own position …”.

It wasn’t me, guv.

The purpose of the Chilcot inquiry is to normalise an epic crime by providing enough of a theatre of guilt to satisfy the media so that the only issue that matters, that of prosecution, is never raised. When he appears in January, Blair will play this part to odious perfection, dutifully absorbing the hisses and boos. All “inquiries” into state crimes are neutered in this way. In 1996, Lord Justice Scott’s arms-to-Iraq report obfuscated the crimes his investigations and voluminous evidence had revealed.

At that time, I interviewed Tim Laxton, who had attended every day of the inquiry as auditor of companies taken over by MI6 and other secret agencies as vehicles for the illegal arms trade with Saddam Hussein. Had there been a full and open criminal investigation, Laxton told me, “hundreds” would have faced prosecution. “They would include,” he said, “top political figures, very senior civil servants from right throughout Whitehall … the top echelon of government.”

That is why Chilcot is advised by the likes of Sir Martin Gilbert, who compared Blair with Churchill and Roosevelt. That is why the inquiry will not demand the release of documents that would illuminate the role of the entire Blair gang, notably Blair’s 2003 cabinet, long silent. Who remembers the threat of the thuggish Geoff Hoon, Blair’s “defence secretary”, to use nuclear weapons against Iraq?

In February, Jack Straw, one of Blair’s principal accomplices, the man who let the mass murderer General Pinochet escape justice and the current “justice secretary”, overruled the Information Commissioner who had ordered the government to publish Cabinet minutes during the period Lord Goldsmith was pressured into changing his judgement that the invasion was illegal. How they fear exposure, and worse.

The media has granted itself immunity. On 27 November, Scott Ritter, the former UN chief weapons inspector, wrote that the invasion “was made far easier given the role of useful idiot played by much of the mainstream media in the US and Britain.” More than four years before the invasion, Ritter, in interviews with myself and others, left not a shred of doubt that Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction had been disabled, yet he was made a non-person. In 2002, when the Bush/Blair lies were in full echo across the media, the Guardian and Observer mentioned Iraq in more than 3,000 articles, of which 49 referred to Ritter and his truth that could have saved thousands of lives.

What has changed? On 30 November, the Independent published a pristine piece of propaganda from its embedded man in Afghanistan. “Troops fear defeat at home,” said the headline. Britain, said the report, “is at serious risk of losing its way in Afghanistan because rising defeatism at home is demoralising the troops on the front line, military commanders have warned.” In fact, public disgust with the disaster in Afghanistan is mirrored among many serving troops and their families; and this frightens the warmongers. So “defeatism” and “demoralising the troops” are added to the weasel lexicon. Good try. Unfortunately, like Iraq, Afghanistan is a crime. Period.

the stage of marriage

The bourgeois claptrap about the family and education, about the hallowed correlation of parents and child, becomes all the more disgusting, the more, by the action of Modern Industry, all the family ties among the proletarians are torn asunder, and their children transformed into simple articles of commerce and instruments of labor.

But you Communists would introduce community of women, screams the bourgeoisie in chorus.

The bourgeois sees his wife a mere instrument of production. He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can come to no other conclusion that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to the women.

He has not even a suspicion that the real point aimed at is to do away with the status of women as mere instruments of production.

For the rest, nothing is more ridiculous than the virtuous indignation of our bourgeois at the community of women which, they pretend, is to be openly and officially established by the Communists. The Communists have no need to introduce free love; it has existed almost from time immemorial.

Our bourgeois, not content with having wives and daughters of their proletarians at their disposal, not to speak of common prostitutes, take the greatest pleasure in seducing each other's wives. (Ah, those were the days!)

Bourgeois marriage is, in reality, a system of wives in common and thus, at the most, what the Communists might possibly be reproached with is that they desire to introduce, in substitution for a hypocritically concealed, an openly legalized system of free love. For the rest, it is self-evident that the abolition of the present system of production must bring with it the abolition of free love springing from that system, i.e., of prostitution both public and private.

The Communists are further reproached with desiring to abolish countries and nationality.

Then I find this blog comment on marriage by Henry Makow:

"Possessiveness" is Part of Marriage

December 10, 2009

(A break from the drumbeat of despair, this slightly revised article originally appeared May 3, 2008)

My wife recently asked me why I loved her. Instead of enumerating her good qualities, I answered simply and honestly: "Because you belong to me. "

At the risk of being politically incorrect, what many men seek in marriage is not great beauty, brains or sex, but the simple feeling of "possessing" a woman. In other words, what they seek is a degree of ownership or power. (Gasp!)

And I believe that, in their heart, many women have the complementary craving, to totally "belong" to their husband.

This is the key to intimacy, how two people become one. When a man wins a woman's love, she entrusts herself to him. And of course he aspires to be worthy of this responsibility.

Thus, a woman empowers her husband. Men and women were designed to complement each other, not to compete or fight.

When I reflect on my marriage, I get most satisfaction from the fact that my wife is "mine." She makes other women redundant. I no longer feel one of them holds the missing key. I have what I want. My wife helps me fulfill my goals. And she gets security and caring from this bond.

The origin of this "possessiveness" is quite real and practical. Men need to "own the womb" to ensure their wives conceive their child and not another man's. Women want to rear an offspring that is the fruit of their love and commitment.

Marriage is the exchange of feminine worldly power for masculine love and protection. Of course, women retain other forms of power, i.e. aesthetic, moral, emotional, intellectual etc.

We live in a toxic environment for marriage. The Illuminati (Masonic) central bankers, who control modern politics, education and kulture, continue to sabotage this exchange by constantly attacking woman's trust in men.

Men are irresponsible "abusers." Marriage is exploitative and oppressive. Women must be "independent." How can a person belong to another? Women must be "strong and independent." The more sex the better. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Women! If you want to be independent, why get married?

Plain and simple, our "feminist" political leaders and educators are dupes and opportunists at best, impostors or traitors at worst. No honest government allows its men and women to be turned against each other.

SEX AND THE CITY

A reader in his early 20's writes that the TV show "Sex and the City" has molded girls of his generation.

This lesbian-tinged quotation is their watchword: "Maybe our girlfriends are our soul mates and guys are just people to have fun with."

Today's young woman "sees no value in a marriage or boyfriend-girlfriend relationship; rather she just gets random sex from guys and emotional/interpersonal stuff from friends," my correspondent writes.

"It's influenced all girls my age because they see some value to sleeping around-- like being a whore is some "strong women" empowering thing..."

Paradoxically the TV show was about four aging career women who are looking for marriage and/or family but find they are incompatible with men. The reason of course is that, due to their feminist (i.e. lesbian) brainwashing, they think men and women are identical. They are confused -- want to control a man and yet be possessed at the same time. They have lost the knack of feminine love (i.e. to surrender, trust and empower.)

Similarly feminism has also molded men to seek sex and extended adolescence instead of marriage. It has undermined and emasculated men so that often they can neither demand nor command a woman's trust.

Thus, the Sex in the City women end up in a series of unsatisfying sexual encounters with men who cannot love. They cannot commit and marry and, as a result, they suffer from arrested development. But all along they console each other in coffee shops and chic boutiques and pretend they have sacrificed marriage for their women's lib principles and their friendship is superior to what they really want.

When a woman chooses a man to love, she will defer to his superior judgment and power. This is the only kind of man she should marry. This is how a woman loves. Similarly, a man cannot love a woman who defies and challenges him constantly.

Sex is the sacred symbol of heterosexual possession, intimacy and exclusivity. The more men a woman belongs to sexually, the less likely she'll ever belong to any.

It's no coincidence that the Creator of "Sex and the City" is Darren Starr, a homosexual.
I have defined homosexuality as "failure to bond permanently with a member of the opposite sex, caused by confusion over sexual identity, resulting in arrested development." Heterosexuals are being re-engineered to fit this description.

ENLIGHTENED "OWNERSHIP"

You don't win a woman's trust by attempting to dominate or suffocate her. Rather you show her how you live, and want to live, and invite her to take a honored place in your life.

You respect her individuality. For example, you don't try to impose your ideas on her. Naturally you will choose someone who has an affinity with you. But you are not looking for your clone. You should value her perspective and enjoy the differences.

I get letters from men who complain that their women can't buy into the "Conspiracy." So what? Do you really want the madness mirrored back to you? If what we're saying is true, it will become apparent to everyone eventually. People in possession of the truth do not have to impose it.

Another example. I can't imagine a man ever insisting on having sex with his wife when she's not in the mood. There's no faster way to turn a woman off a man, and off sex. (Of course if she never wants sex, the marriage is broken.)

On the other hand, a man won't let his wife engage in activities that endanger her or their marriage.

CONCLUSION

When a man loves a woman, he wants her to be happy. He wants her to want to be his.

I'm not saying all marriages have to be this way. I'm not saying my marriage is perfect. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Whatever works for you is best for you.

I am saying there is a place for "possession" in many marriages. If I am right, the quality men should seek is feminine receptivity: i.e. the ability to love, trust, belong.

Ugly Old News Again

Captain Courageous Witnessed: Dr. Kelly Assassinated!

By W. Leon Smith – The Lone Star Iconclast Dec 10, 2009

So you'll never tell anyone else that your government sexed up the evidence on weapons of mass destruction, will you? Well, at least I've told what I know about the Bush Team's cover-up of military casualties, whatever he does to me. You became frightened and tried to recant, while I've been flying at them stirring up as much fuss as possible. I hope my plan works better than yours.
— July 18, morning, letter to Dr. David Kelly, England
http://www.ghosttroop.net/davidkelly.htm

Dr. David Kelly, the UK scientist and war critic with connections to the BBC and the New York Times, predicted that he would be assassinated for daring to be right about the lack of Iraq WMD evidence while UK leaders chose to be wrong. His corpse, found on July 17, 2003 under mysterious circumstances, proved his prescience. At the time Tony Blair and George W. Bush were meeting in Washington to discuss their wobbly war, and to menace their critics. Coming when it did, Kelly's murder was something right out of Macbeth or Machiavelli.

Captain Eric H. May, the U.S. journalist and war critic with connections to NBC and the New York Times, likewise predicted that he would be assassinated for speaking truth to power about the Iraq war. Ironically, May, a lifelong Texan, had contacts, even friendships, with Bush administration insiders. In 1995 The Wall Street Journal asked him to write an essay on the art of executive speech writing. A year later he was interviewing with Team Bush about becoming the then-governor's speechwriter for the upcoming 2000 presidential campaign.

After the outbreak of the Iraq war, though, the former Army intelligence officer became an enemy of what he contemptuously called the "Bush League" when it collaborated with the mainstream media to cover up the April 5-9 Battle of Baghdad. Heavy Army and Marine losses were hidden under embellished stories about Pvt. Jessica Lynch. During this heinous act of stolen valor, the Bush administration kept a lid on things back in the U.S. by threatening and medicating the bereaved families of the fallen.

Exposing the Battle of Baghdad Cover-Up (BOBCUP) became Captain May's crusade. He confirmed it through political, media, and military contacts. Going to Ft. Stewart, Ga., he received details of the battle, and a chilling death threat from a Special Forces officer. Col. Neil Dennington's insinuation that dissent would be met with "special forces detachment" was an early hint of the Bush/Cheney "executive assassination" Special Forces detachments reported by New Yorker investigative journalist Seymour Hersh last year.

After the 2003 July 4th weekend, three months after BOBCUP, May sensed an anti-Bush movement in the country, especially within the armed forces, and resolved to tell the truth to the American people, damn the consequences. He knew that it would be a perilous mission. An astute political observer, he anticipated and annotated the US/UK assassinations of July 17-22, 2003. During this "July Jumble," as it came to be called, a wide array of VIP figures would be murdered, including the UK's David Kelly, New York City Councilman James Davis and Saddam Hussein's sons, Uday and Qusay. George W. Bush may have been on the hit list himself, as suggested by the notorious "Shooting Bush" political cartoon published by the LA Times on July 20 – in the middle of the July Jumble.

Surprised to find himself still alive at the end of it all, May published a report that has already become an underground classic of military intelligence and principled action. The Lone Star Iconoclast is proud to vouch for the valor of its intelligence editor, Captain Eric H. May, and the validity of his historic opus, Ghost Troop Introduction.

In it investigators and readers will find e-mails exposing the motives behind war and politics — as well as cover-up and assassination. They will find the best military analyses in America, both published and unpublishable. Finally, they will find appended information proving that, if dedicated to his cause, a courageous captain may win a battle, influence a war, and even change the course of history.

TV Drama: Dwelling Narrowness

The myth of Chinese middle class is laid bare. Chinese society is not even capitalism in which money and profit speak louder than traditional privileges and decide political power, while in China it is still the political power that decides money and people. The social relations are determined by power and privilege more than by money.

The story tells the hardship a Shanghai white collar couple has experienced in acquiring a flat of their own, it is very realistic. It is also very credible and look familiar to many viewers that a powerful official has succeeded in acquiring good things in his life, i.e. power, money and women. It all goes well and looks real until in the end the powerful official started to lose everything, and higher party officials gave sermon on morals and party politics.

My Comment:

As religious fanatics, some linguistic fanatics, mainly from TW, HK and some mainland China reactionaries have made big fuss over simplified Chinese characters, as if that were a big crime done by the post-1949 government to destroy Chinese culture and traditions. As a matter of fact, pre-1949 KMT government also attempt to simplify Chinese characters, but their efforts was either stalled by the Sino-Japanese war or by lack of determination. If Chiang Kaishek's government with those money bags surrounding him care enough about illiteracy problem and other grass root problems, they probably would not have been kicked out of the mainland China by Chinese Communists.

China's Decade

Rachman Blog (Geoff Dyer):
One of the occupational hazards of being a reporter in Beijing is being on the receiving end of a lecture about how the western media treat China unfairly. It can come from foreign ministry officials, company executives or taxi drivers. I once got a warning from a corn farmer whose fields had just been ravaged by a chemicals spill not to write an article making China look bad. The charge is usually the same: that foreign journalists are so obsessed about human rights abuses and internet censorship that we miss the positive things happening in Chinese economy and society.

If I am feeling a bit defensive, I will question whether there really is a coherent group called "the western media" or argue that the job of a journalist involves calling attention to problems, not handing out gold stars. Or sometimes I will say that it does not ring true, that for every human rights story there are two more about how China and its economy have changed. Well, now there is some evidence, in the form of a survey from an organisation called The Global Language Monitor, which researches trends in printed and electronic media. The conclusion is that the biggest story of the decade has been the rise of China. Indeed, it is the biggest story by far, outstretching the Iraq war in second place by 400 per cent. September 11, the financial crisis, or the death of Michael Jackson received much less coverage than China.

Bo Xilai's Mafia Busting:Further Consolidation of Big Capitals
